St. Mary's on Slalom and Slopes

Team sets sights on championships
Congratulations to St. Mary's ski team which has wrapped its regular season!  Competing through the Southern Oregon Ski Racing League (SOSEF) St Marys has four alpine ski racers. The boys team includes Nate Lemley and Ryder and Rhys McKernon.  McKenzie Gallagher joined the league this year as well.  The four regular-season races wrapped up this weekend at Mt Ashland.  All of the St Marys racers skied admirably.

Nate and McKenzie qualified for the Oregon State Championships in March.  McKenzie placed 6th overall for the girls in our league, a very impressive accomplishment during her freshman year. Ryder and Rhys placed a respectable 16th and 30th.  Nate consistently won both the slalom and giant slalom, often by a considerable margin in a field of some great competition. He had the maximum number of word cup points for the combined disciplines (1200), which is an incredible achievement.  Because of this achievement, Nate qualified to compete in the Western US High School Championships at Mammoth, California in mid-March.  He will compete with the best high school racers from the Western US, including California, Colorado, Wyoming, Nevada, Illinois, and Minnesota. Congratulations again, and we wish Nate and the team the best of luck!
