The Crusaders defended their state title against the formidable opponent, Portland Adventist Academy, on Sunday at the Olympus Sports Center, a rematch of the finals from last year.
In a 5 set thriller, the Crusaders took sets 1 and 2 with solid passing and defense while forcing poor passing with strong serving, led by Connor Gibbs, Cole Mayfield, and Kent David. In sets 3 and 4, Portland Adventist Academy settled into their serve receive, allowing them to run their offense while the Crusaders struggled to adjust to their offense.
In set 5, the Crusaders took a 3-0 lead with strong serving from Connor Gibbs and a couple of kills from Kent David. The team led 9-5 before PAA made a last-ditch comeback effort to bring the score back to 11-9. The Crusaders sealed the win with a score of 15-10 to take the state title. Kent David led the team with 21 kills, while Connor Gibbs contributed 14. CJ Seggelink had 41 assists while he and David each had 17 digs for the match.
